Talks, Speeches, Lectures, Storytelling
All of the presentations are delivered with simplicity to fit the young and
the young at heart. The sessions are presented within the framework of
African storytelling and can be delivered for periods ranging from 5 minutes
to one hour to a whole day. You decide.
- Africa: General overview - Is Africa a country or a continent?
- What is the
difference between a country and a continent anyway? Where is Africa? Who
lives there? What languages do they speak out there? What kinds of
political systems exist? These questions will be answered by tackling the
Africa of then and of now in the context of the continent's past and present
political, traditional, social-economic and cultural climate.
- Africa - The Cradle of Mankind:
- Did life really start in Africa? The
subject will be handled from a scientific and anthropological viewpoint.
Evidence will be derived from genetic studies (DNA), fossils, migration and
environmental factors as determined by such experts as the Leakeys of Kenya.
- Kenya:
- Where the heck is this country? Who lives there anyway? What kind of
government does this country have? What kind of money do the people use?
How many languages are spoken there? How can a person visit this country?
How do people relate to one another and to the whole wide world? All this
will be discussed in a down to earth and friendly way with lots of hands-on
examples to share including art work, music and music instruments, stories
and more.
- Kenyan Women:
 - What are the social, economic, educational and cultural
challenges faced by the women of Kenya? What contributions do these women
make? What are some of the highlights of women issues in Kenya?
This discussion will be led by one of them - a true Kenyan woman.
- Tanzania:
- Would you like to climb one of the world's most spectacular
mountains with snow and a crater all rolled in one? If you want to know
more about this wonder of the world and to see the world's most spectacular
animals, this discussion is for you. You will hear about the wonders of Mt.
Kilimanjaro, the animals of Serengeti and the origin of the Swahili
language. You will get to meet a true Tanzanian, feel with your own hands
the art of the people of this country, and fall in love with the animals of
Serengeti.
- Kwanzaa:
 - What is Kwanzaa? How did it come about? Who celebrates it anyway?
What are the myths and truths associated with this celebration? Is it true
Kwanzaa is a Black Christmas? This speech will dispel the myths associated
with this very spiritual African-American celebration that has its roots in
the African culture.
- Writing Your Book and Publishing It:
- In this presentation, the authors will
discuss the joys of writing and becoming independent publishers. What does
it take? How do you unscramble the puzzle?
- Faith and Spirituality In Africa:
- This presentation will trace the
historical infiltration of Judeo-Christian, Islamic, and Eastern religions
in Africa. What was spirituality like before African colonialism. How have
the above mentioned religions affected life in Africa. How does the future
of religion and religious life look in Africa.
- African Storytelling:
 - The authors have been doing African storytelling for
years. Indeed, their writing originated in storytelling and story songs.
Their storytelling is geared to young audiences (approximately 4-12 year
olds) and the young at heart. Through storytelling they teach gently the
lessons of diversity, acceptance, love, etc, and present the world as a
place for all to live and enjoy - humans, animals and plants.
